Have been bipolar for nearly 30 years now, though did not get definitive diagnosis as bipolar type II till about 10 years ago, from a psychiatrist I'd been seeing for about 15 years. Living through the medication that didn't work was the hardest part for me, being so depressed and so tired and so hopeless, but having to deal with a husband, a job, and two small children. That was a while ago, though, and the husband is gone, the kids are grown and well-launched in their own careers, and I live by myself (well, 2 dogs & a cat, but nobody who talks back!). With therapy and proper medication I find my bipolar reasonably easy to live with most of the time. I feel like I've made it through the fire to safety on the other side.
